The 10-Day Tanzania Safari & Kilimanjaro Hiking Adventure (Machame Route) is an exciting combination of mountain trekking and wildlife safari in Tanzania. This itinerary features a 6-day climb of Mount Kilimanjaro via the popular Machame Route, known for its scenic beauty and excellent acclimatization profile.
After conquering Africa’s highest peak at Uhuru Peak, the adventure continues with a classic safari through Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp
Transfer from Arusha to Kilimanjaro and start your climb at Machame Gate.
Hike through dense rainforest with chances to see monkeys and exotic birds. Reach Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Mountain camp
Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone.
Enjoy stunning views of Kilimanjaro as you hike to Shira Camp.

Accommodation: Mountain camp
Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Trek toward Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp.
This “climb high, sleep low” day improves altitude adaptation.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Climb the famous Barranco Wall and continue trekking to Karanga Camp.
Shorter trekking day allowing rest and acclimatization.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt.
Rest early and prepare for the midnight summit climb.

Day 6: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak – Descent
Begin your summit attempt at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise.
After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp and later exit the park. Transfer back to Arusha for rest.

Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha
Day 7: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park.
Enjoy a game drive with large elephant herds and baobab trees.
Dinner and overnight at a lodge or camp.

Accommodation: Lodge or camp in Tarangire
Day 8: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park
Drive to Serengeti National Park via Ngorongoro Highlands.
Enjoy game viewing en route and an afternoon game drive.

Day 9: Serengeti – Full Day Game Drive
Spend a full day exploring Serengeti, home to lions, cheetahs, elephants, and more.
Morning and afternoon game drives included.

Day 10: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend for a game drive.
After lunch, transfer back to Arusha or to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) for departure.
