Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Your adventure begins with a drive from Arusha or Moshi to the Machame Gate, the starting point of the Machame Route. After completing park registration, you will begin your trek through the dense rainforest zone of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The trail winds through lush vegetation filled with giant ferns, moss-covered trees, and occasional sightings of wildlife such as monkeys and colorful birds. The steady climb leads you to Machame Camp, where you will spend your first night on the mountain.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone, where the landscape becomes more open and dramatic.

The trail offers spectacular views of Mount Meru and the surrounding plains. As you climb higher, the vegetation changes to giant heathers and unique alpine plants. The trek continues across ridges and valleys until you reach Shira Camp, located on the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Today is an important acclimatization day. You will hike gradually upward toward the Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation standing at about 4,630 meters.

After spending some time at this altitude, you will descend to Barranco Camp. This approach helps your body adjust to the high altitude and greatly improves your chances of reaching the summit.

Barranco Camp is located in a beautiful valley beneath the famous Barranco Wall, offering spectacular views of Kibo Peak.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, you will begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting parts of the Machame Route. Although it may look intimidating, the climb is not technical and is manageable with the guidance of your experienced guides.

At the top, you will enjoy incredible views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and the surrounding valleys. The trail then continues through alpine desert terrain before reaching Karanga Camp.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today you will hike to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.

The landscape becomes more rugged and barren as you approach higher altitude. After arriving at camp, you will have an early dinner and rest in preparation for the midnight summit climb.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Around midnight, you will begin the final ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

This challenging climb takes you past Stella Point before reaching the ultimate goal: Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Watching the sunrise from the summit is one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire journey.

After celebrating and taking photos at the summit, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

On the final day, you will descend through the beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate, where the climb officially ends.

Upon arrival, you will receive your Mount Kilimanjaro summit certificates before returning to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha to celebrate your incredible achievement.
